ALL ABOUT JOYCE

I set up this Blog to share the experience of designing a tree for Festival of Trees and also to have the family be a part of the tree by helping donate. Any little bit helps. All donations will go straight to decorating the tree, any left over will be donated to Primary Children's Hospital. The main Donor to our tree will be listed as "The Dibble Family" along with "Friends of Festival". I have helped set up and design two previous trees for the Festival of Trees in past years. We are thrilled to do it again, especially knowing that the tree will be dedicated to our sweet JOYCE. The group I am designing with includes my best friend Mandi Arrington, her sister and also my friend Jenilyn Drummond and Jody Nice who is Mandi's sister inlaw. This will be their fourth year. I am thrilled to be a part.

We've got the SPOT!

We are officially registered and have been assigned "Our SPOT" in the Festival of Trees. Drum roll please........................................... M21!!! We are pleased with our spot. It is closer to the main South Stage, which is nice. Close to the back near the playhouse plaza. Not too close to the middle. I mean really, there are how many spots? 328 spots total. I think we'll move in nicely. Cozy up to whoever ends up next to us. Let's just hope we don't end up next to something super showy like the "Upside Down Tree" or the "Star Wars Tree". You just never know :)

More beautiful Pictures.

Thank you Kathy for sending me these wonderful pictures. They are just beautiful.

This picture was drawn by a local Artist, Jan Keaton I believe. A friend of the family. It has meant a lot to our family, and has sparked up conversation outside of the family. We treasure this piece of art. Truly inspired.

Below is picture of Grandma and Grandpa Dibble. With baby Joyce in Grandpa's arms.

I miss the good ol times but I love how we still all have that special connection and we always will. I love keeping in touch through facebook, and blogging, even email. Our prayers as a family have worked miracles as Gary said the other night. It is an amazing thing. Love you all,

Christmas with Joyce

"You better watch out you better not cry you better not pout I'm telling you why, Santa Claus is coming to town"
I can almost hear her singing it.

Dedication

The JOYCE of Paper

Joyce Elsie Dibble was born February 22, 1952 to Frances and Wallace Reid Dibble in Salt Lake City Utah. Grandma and Grandpa Dibble raised Joyce with Down Syndrome, her whole life they took care of her, until Grandpa passed away and Grandma could no longer care for her needs. Joyce’s sister Barbara, with the help of family, took Joyce into her home at that time until Joyce’s medical needs got to the point where she needed to be monitored. Joyce is now living in a rest home at the age of 58. And not a day goes by where her family does not think about her. She is a strong willed wonderful person. Grandpa called her his beautiful angel. She is here on this earth to teach us all. We have learned a lot from her. Growing up Joyce was fun and very active. She loved school at one point in her life.

Joyce has many favorite things: Her favorite colors are pink and red, yellow and blue are okay, but don’t you dare wear anything with green. Joyce hates green. We were told it is from the greenish Monkeys from the Wizard of OZ, somehow it ties back to that. Joyce loves beautiful people, she loves movie stars. She also loves cowboys. Joyce collects school papers, folders and pretty cards with the envelope. When we would go visit her she would ask for a school paper from you and she wouldn’t let you go until you gave her one. She used to line her papers up evenly on her bedroom floor. Not one paper out of place, not one paper crooked. Her floor would be covered in paper. She even had her favorite pieces of paper and she would want you to read them over and over to her, and look at them all with her. She loves to color with markers. She would write her name over and over.

We love our Joyce, we will always remember those fun times at Grandma and Grandpa Dibble’s house. We will remember Joyce and her sweet smile. We will remember the love and care Grandma and Grandpa showed Joyce all those many years. This tree is dedicated to Joyce because we love her.

The Joyce I want to remember.

We had some fun times and some very funny moments at the Larsen house with silly Joyce.

These were taken on mothers day. Joyce wanted to give my mom a kiss, but she had slobber mouth, and she new barbara didn't want her to kiss her, so she kept on trying. Joyce is so physically strong she wouldn't give up. Finally! She slobbered Barbara. You win Joyce you win. We did get a good smile out of that fight from the winner!

Collin would tease Joyce constantly, don't worry she liked it. One time Collin had her on the floor laughing while he pulled her shoes and socks off and was tickling her feet. She laughed so hard and uncontrolably she then started crying. Collin didn't know what he did wrong. Barbara came to the rescue helped her up on a chair and began to put her socks on and that silly Joyce got a big smile and took her hand
and hit Collin right on the head. As to say, "Ha, I win again."
There are many more times we will never forget. Email me some of your favorite stories of Joyce. yokarlar@gmail.com Thanks!

How we named the tree

We all know Joyce loves papers. School papers, blue work papers specifically from me, and yellow school papers from Mandi. Folders to put her papers in were essential.
Well, as we sat down to name the tree after we had decided to dedicate the tree to Joyce. The girls asked me what Joyce was like and what did she like, what were her favorite things. I thought about how stubborn Joyce is. Okay that won't work how about how joyful, and playful. Then I named off the things she likes.
Paper was the first thing that came to mind, then movie stars, cowboys, and horses, dolls and barbies. The colors pink, and red accompanied by yellow and blue. No green, absolutely no green. Hmm, she loved to write her name over and over. She loved pretty cards too with the matching envelope. She really loves papers. All those folders and papers lined up in her room not one was crooked. And if you bumped one she would have to fix it. She had her favorite papers too. Man if you brought the right paper one week you were her favorite person for the next couple weeks!
We came to the conclusion that the name had to include paper. It brings joy to Joyce for some reason. We brainstormed for a while and finally came up with, "THE JOYCE OF PAPER" it just fits.
We are determined to incorporate paper as much as we can throughout the tree. ModgePodge, crepe paper flowers etc. Jody had an Idea to lay out reams of colorful paper underneath the tree. It will be fun. I will update with more ideas.

Our Inspiration

Mandi found inspiration for our tree online, just brousing. We have stuck with neutral the past few years. This tree will splash color. The idea is to make sure the tree is designed to sell. Sticking with the Christmas traditional style. Hopefully it will catch someones eye. Sticking with the trends will also help it sell. We will be shopping around up until a few weeks before the set up date at the end of November. We put everyone in charge of a "color" So we won't end up with a bunch of different shades. I am in charge of the green, Mandi has Fushia and so on.

Feathers are so in right now. I'll definitely be looking along those lines.

Flower Balls

Depending on the colors of crepe paper we can find. We are making these for the tree. All sizes as a bold statement for the tree.
